Tips on speaking with your Insurance Provider
When reaching out to your insurance carrier, consider asking the following questions:
- What is the reimbursement policy for out-of-network psychotherapy services with respect to the following CPT codes: 90791 and 90834? Your insurance provider is familiar with CPT codes and can clarify if they cover these specific codes.
- Is there a maximum limit on the number of psychotherapy sessions eligible for reimbursement?
- Will the insurance company provide reimbursement for the following common diagnoses seen in my practice: Insomnia, ADHD, PTSD, anxiety disorders, depression, adjustment disorder, substance use disorder, and acute stress disorder? While some clients may have additional diagnoses, these are prevalent in my practice, and it's beneficial to ascertain if the insurance company will consider reimbursement for the associated ICD-10 codes.
- If the insurance company offers a percentage-based reimbursement, what is the reimbursement percentage, and what is the maximum allowable total cost per session? It's crucial to understand both the percentage of reimbursement and the highest permissible session rate.
